Hockeython is approaching! Benefitting Kenya’s “So They Can” Fund.

For the past 16 years, our fifth grade gift to the community has been in the form of a donation to the UVA Children’s Hospital.  For years this was in conjunction with the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, and more recently, it has been more of an independent venture.  Over those years, we have raised tens of thousands of dollars for kids in our own community, and last year, we were able to make that donation to the new Battle Building at UVA Children’s Hospital.

This year we will be having our “Hockeython” at the Scottsville Community Center on May 31st, and we will be playing hockey for 4 hours for pledges for a new great cause!  We are raising money this year for the “So They Can” fund, which strives to empower women and children in impoverished Africa through better educational opportunities.  One of these opportunities, includes Aberdare Ranges Primary School in Kenya.  One of our fifth grade students has spent time in Kenya and at this school learning how we can help.  Please consider donating in the form of cash or check to your 5th grade student or to the class as a whole.  Checks can be made payable to Scottsville Elementary School, and can be given to any of our fifth graders, or to me on their behalf.

Thanks!

Tom Green (5th grade teacher)
